How My Song Came To Be
When I was in grade eight we were learning about the Rights of Children. I learned that lots of kids don't have the things that we have. I was so surprised. We had to do a project on our own with an idea for a way to raise money to help feed and care for all the children in Africa that had AIDS. I got the idea that I could write a song about how all children have rights. So I wrote my song and then a guy wrote the music for it. Another guy recorded it and it was put on a CD for me to have other kids get it.
I decided that there are 4 things I think all kids have rights to:
- Freedom
- Health
- Friends
- Family
I thought about this a long time and wanted to help all kids but I couldn't do it alone. So I got the idea that maybe if I started a website others would help me. Will you? Together we CAN change the world - one kid at a time.
One of the ways I did this was I started a Random Acts of Kindness Club at school. I would watch around school and when I saw another kid (or teacher) do something nice for someone or someone would like pick up a piece of garbage, I would give them a Random Act Of Kindness Certificate that I made on my computer. This was a great idea because it caught on and kids started to be kinder to others. You could do this or you could just do your own Random acts of kindness.
Here's a few other suggestions:
1. Look around and find a kid who needs to know they matter. Make that kid know someone believes they are special. You could include them in your group, send them a card or note or send them a story that will inspire them to be all they can be.
2. Search for ways to compliment others. Tell a kid they have a great smile, tell someone they look great or thank a kid for something they did.
3. Become an Email Pen Pal with someone. It could be a kid who doesn't have many friends or a Special Needs kid who can't leave home or .. you think of someone. It's so easy to send Daily Emails in order to make a dofference in someone's life.
Do you have some ideas that you can tell us about? Or do you have a story about something that happened because of a situation that you or someone else took part in? Let me know and I'll add the suggestion to our list here and I'll put your story into my story page.
It's not the size of what you do that matters. It's that you choose to do it.
